SEATTLE – Seattle U women's tennis took on the University of Washington for a second straight Thursday at Lloyd Nordstrom Tennis Center. The unbeaten Huskies would send the Redhawks to an identical 7-0 defeat. The loss moves the Redhawks to 0-2 on the season.
"Today was another great chance to compete against a strong team," said Head Coach Kristina Hollander. "I have seen a lot of improvement in our team and we are all looking forward to continuing to get stronger."
Washington started the day by claiming the doubles point. Junior Jillian Rasmussen paired up with sophomore Jade Lancaster against 74th-ranked Vanessa Wong and Sarah-Maude Fortin, falling 0-6, while juniors Hannah Grossman and Martina Asciuto suffered the same result against Zoey Weil and Tara Chilton. Senior Hannah Gianan and junior Aranza Alvarez Sanabria (1-6) battled against Yolanda Lin and Sedona Gallagher.
In singles play, junior Alisa Sabotic (0-6, 7-6 (7-4), 0-1 (4-10)) was the closest to victory, pushing Lin to a third set. Grossman (3-6, 2-6) finished with the same scoreline as last week against Chilton, while fellow junior Ascuito (3-6, 0-6) started off well but fell short to opponent Ashley Chang. Senior Peggy Rooke (1-6, 0-6) faced off against Wong, while Gianan and Rasmussen suffered identical results, 0-6, 0-6, to Gallagher and Fortin respectively.
The Redhawk's matches this weekend against Portland State and University of Oregon have been canceled due to weather. The next scheduled event is now a home match set for Feb. 19 versus Portland State.
