SEATTLE – No. 15 Seattle University men's soccer fell, 1-0, to UTRGV in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) opener on Saturday night. SU's Akili Kasim made four saves in net at Championship Field.

In the first half, neither side was able to get much momentum. SU (1-1-0, 0-1-0 WAC) had moments of possession and created opportunities, but could not come up with the finishing touch. UTRGV picked off a pass and scored in transition for a 1-0 edge in the 38th minute.

Seattle U got going in the second half, pressuring the Vaquero defense down the stretch. Solid chances went missing and then Kasim had to come up with a key reaction save to keep it a one-goal margin. SU earned set-piece opportunities in the closing minutes, but the visitors turned away each try and escaped with the win.

The Redhawks head to Houston Baptist for another WAC match on Saturday, Feb. 13.
