Seattle U volleyball will begin the Michelle Cole-era and the Spring 2021 season with a two-match series at Utah Valley.

OREM, Utah — Seattle U volleyball opens the regular season in Orem, Utah for the first time in the program history, when it takes on the Wolverines in a two-match series. The series also marks the beginning of the Michelle Cole-era for Seattle U, in the same location where Cole's predecessor, James Finley, finished his career. The Redhawks last visited the Utah Valley campus for the 2019 WAC Tournament, where it fell to former member Kansas City in the first round.

Opponent Preview: Utah Valley

•    Utah Valley's season opener last week at California Baptist was postponed due to health and safety protocols. 
•    UVU is led by head coach Sam Atoa who is in his 18th season with the program. Atoa has complied a 284-223 career record in Orem. 
•    The Wolverrines were picked fifth in the preseason polls.
•    Junior outside hitter Kazna Tanuvasa and senior libero Seren Jardine were named Preseason All-WAC selections and headline a UVU lineup that includes 12 returners from last season.

•    The season opener will be Michelle Cole's debut with Seattle U as head coach ... Cole made her head coaching debut in
2006 at Occidental  (DIII) where she spent two seasons.
•    The 2020-21 academic year marks the 22nd season of Seattle U volleyball since the program was reinstatement in 1999  
... this season is also the Redhawks' 13th as a NCAA Division I-member and ninth as part of the WAC.
•    Since 1999, Seattle U is 12-9 in season openers including winners of its last five.  
•    The Redhawks begin the year with 25,750 kills, 30,408 digs and 4,226 total blocks, since the start of 1999 season.
•    Monday's meeting will be the first meaningful match for Seattle U volleyball in 438 days.

•    Prior to Monday's meeting the Redhawks and Utah Valley have meet 17 times.
•    Seattle U trails the all-time series 11-6 and is 7-1 when facing the Wolverines at home.
•    The last time Seattle U defeated Utah Valley on its home court was Oct. 21, 2017 (3-2).
