SEATTLE — First-year head coach Michelle Cole, on Tuesday, officially announced her inaugural recruiting class for Seattle U volleyball, with the addition of incoming freshmen Katlyn Spies and Erin Goya for Fall 2021 campaign.
"We are super excited to be able add Katlyn and Erin to our lineup for next season," said Cole. "Anytime we can add a fresh perspective to help the team move forward, plus grow our Redhawk volleyball family is always welcomed."
"Both ladies will help strengthen our backline and defensive ball handling, and based on what we want looking to run, they'll provide us with a number of options and in starting things from the back," Cole added.
Katlyn Sipes — DS/L • 5-2 • Montgomery, Ill.
A four-year letterwinner at St. Francis College Prep HS (Wheaton, Ill.) … helped the Spartans to various playoff finals including Sectionals and Super Sectionals appearances in 2019, as well as three-consecutive Regional bids in 2017, 2018 and 2019 … as a junior, finished the 2019 season as conference leader in total digs … garnered All-Area honors in 2019 ... played club for Sports Performance VC since 2014 … helped SPVC win gold at Nationals in 2016 and 2018 … was named SPVC team captain in 2017 … parents are Jennifer and Jason … has two sisters, Olivia and Beatrice, and a brother, Joey … plans to major in psychology, with aspirations to pursue a career in social work or sports psychology.
Cole: "Katlyn is a talented and fiery competitor. We think she'll offer a strong defensive presence and could certainly contend for playing time early."
Erin Goya — DS/L • 5-5 • Honolulu, Hawaii
A three-year varsity letterwinner at Mid-Pacific HS (Honolulu, Hawaii) … played club for Hanahou as well as Spike and Serve … parents are Trisha and Dale … has a sister, Paige … plans to major in biology, with career aspirations of becoming nurse.
Cole: "Erin is an amazing young lady who fits the Seattle University profile. As a member of this team, we think she'll provide valuable depth to our backline as she develops and becomes accustomed to the college level."
Cole and the current Redhawk lineup open the Spring 2021 season on Feb. 1 with a trip on Utah Valley.
