SEATTLE – Seattle U men's basketball closed out non-conference play Saturday night, cruising to a 98-63 win over Saint Martin's University in the Redhawk Center.

Four Redhawks scored in double figures on the night, including Riley Grigsby with a game-high 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting. Darrion Trammell added 17 points and seven assists, Aaron Nettles had 16 points, including five three pointers, and Emeka Udenyi chipped in 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Saint Martin's (1-0) was paced by Tyke Thompson's 20 points and 13 rebounds. Ty Velasquez added 12 points and Alex Schumacher chipped in 10.

The Redhawks (7-5) shot 55 percent from the field on the night, their second best shooting performance of the season. They went 13-of-28 from beyond the arc, matching a season-high for threes while earning their best shooting percentage of the year.

Nettles went 5-of-6 from deep and Grigsby added a trio of threes, while Rip Economou and Joe Wall added two each.

A 10-0 run early in the game had Seattle U out to a 16-6 advantage. The Saints would hang around for much of the first half, until a 10-3 Redhawk run to close out the frame gave the home team a 40-27 lead at the break.

Shooting better than 60 percent from the field in the second half, Seattle U made it a 20-point game, 56-36, on a Grigsby layup at the 14:49 mark. That bucket sat in the midst of a 7-0 spurt that saw the lead balloon to 25, 61-36. The Redhawks would cruise from there, leading by as many as 38 before a Saint Martin's three inside 30 seconds remaining accounted for the final balance.

From first to second half, the Redhawks also found their way to the line at greater frequency. After going just 2-of-4 from the stripe in the opening frame, they went 17-of-21 in the second to finish 19-of-25 on the night. The Redhawks also saw themselves on the wrong side of a 25-22 rebounding edge in the first half, but went on to dominate the boards in the second half, 21-11.

Western Athletic Conference play is up next for Seattle U on Jan. 15-16 as the Redhawks host Utah Valley on back-to-back nights in the Redhawk Center. For the most up-to-date schedule information, continue to check the men's basketball schedule page at GoSeattleU.com.
