BANDON, ORE. – Seattle U men's golf finished play at the Bandon Dunes Championship on Tuesday, ending in 12th place out of 16 teams after three 18-hole rounds on the par-71 Pacific Dunes course at the Bandon Dunes Resort. Oregon State won the team title with a stroke total of 11 under par, while UCLA's Devon Bling took home the individual title at six-under 208. The Redhawks posted a group total of +23 in the tournament.
Sophomore Nathan Cogswell (65-72-78) led the way for Seattle U with a two-over 215, shooting an eagle on the first day. His first round of 65 is tied for the second-lowest in Redhawk history and tied for third in program history versus par, while also tying the course record. In all, he had the second-best stroke average (3.89) on par 4s in the tournament, posting a composite three-under on those holes. Classmate Jack Rahon shot rounds of 74, 77 and 69 to finish with a score of 220, while senior Greg Gionfriddo (80-72-73) finished third for Seattle U. Finally, sophomore Federico Gutierrez (82-71-73) shot an eagle in the second round to join Cogswell on the tournament list, and freshman Will Koepke (74-82-75) rounded out the roster for the Redhawks.
"There were lots of amazing positives this weekend," said Head Coach Marc Chandonnet. "We know that things are shaping up for this team, and it's only a matter of time."
The team will have less than two weeks to practice before heading off to Eugene, Ore., for the Oregon Duck Invitational on Mar. 23-24.
