BOZEMAN, MONT. - Seattle U women's tennis, hoping to get back in the win column, closed out their weekend slate this morning against the Montana State Bobcats. A strong effort from the entire team allowed the Redhawks to stay in the hunt, but MSU was desperately searching for a win of their own and managed to pull out the victory, 6-1.
Freshman Jade Lancaster stood out for Seattle U in singles play, posting a 6-3, 6-3 win over the Bobcats' JJ Chen. Four different Redhawks took their opponents to three sets: junior Kyra Jung (6-4, 2-6, 2-6) against Laura Mary, sophomore Alisa Sabotic (6-7 [5-7], 6-1, 2-6) against Mirte Van Baelen, junior Michelle Bader (4-6, 6-4, 4-10) against Caitlin Ward and sophomore Martina Asciuto (6-3, 2-6, 9-11) against Evi Buijsen. Finally, sophomore Jillian Rasmussen scored 0-6, 1-6 versus Montana State's Linnea Fristam.
Lancaster also excelled in doubles play, partnering with junior Hannah Gianan to defeat Mary and Fristam 7-6 (12-10). Jung and Bader battled hard against Ward and partner Daphne Haverkamp, ultimately falling 2-6, and the Grossman-Asciuto duo posted a score of 1-6 against Van Baelen and Chen.
Seattle U will head home to the Amy Yee Tennis Center for their next match, a 12:00 p.m. bout against British Columbia on Friday, Feb. 14.
