NAMPA, IDAHO – Seattle U track and field finished up on Saturday at the Western Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships, capping off their day with a stellar performance from the women's 4x400m relay team that set a new Redhawk indoor record while also beating the program-record outdoor time. Sophomore Regie Grady, freshman Maya McCabe, senior Siobhan Rubio and senior Michelle Newblom finished the race with a time of 3:52.62, second in their heat and fourth overall, to beat a program record that has stood since 2014.
In the women's 800m finals, Rubio finished in fourth place with a time of 2:17.43 to score for Seattle U. McCabe also competed in the 800m, finishing in seventh place. Sophomore Tallia Sova competed in the shot put, finishing second in her heat with a throw of 11.50m, while sophomore Rachel Van Liew scored for Seattle U in the high jump with a mark of 1.53m.
Sophomore Lucas Milne finished up the men's heptathlon today, moving up to seventh place to finish at 4212 total points. Junior Nathan Pixler competed in the 800m finals, taking fourth place at 1:54.28, while sophomore Ansel Pendley-Griffin (4:21.60) finished in seventh in the mile run finals and classmate Zach Gonzalez (49.85) took seventh in the 400m finals. The men's 4x400m team also scored for the Redhawks, with senior Jarod De Guzman, sophomore Stewart Keene, Pixler and Gonzalez posting a time of 3:29.84.
Seattle U will take a few weeks off before beginning their outdoor season starts on March 21 in West Seattle at the Doris Heritage Invitational.
