SEATTLE – Seattle U women's tennis got back to their winning ways on Friday, sweeping British Columbia 7-0 at the Amy Yee Tennis Center. All of the Redhawks won their singles matches while also claiming victory in all three doubles matchups.
Freshman Jade Lancaster (6-4, 6-0) had a strong showing in singles play, defeating the Thunderbirds' Michelle Lim in straight sets, while sophomore Aranza Alvarez Sanabria easily triumphed over Abigail Heninger, 6-2, 6-2. Fellow sophomore Martina Asciuto (6-4, 6-1) finished strong against British Columbia's Sofia Kresta in the number five slot, junior Kyra Jung (6-3, 6-3) had a solid outing against Madison Fan of British Columbia, and sophomore Jillian Rasmussen overcame adversity with a decisive second set against Sara Zupanc, 7-5, 6-1. Finally, junior Hannah Gianan greatly impressed with a grind-out win versus Jessica Silva, finishing 7-6 (7-2), 6-3.
In doubles, Jung and fellow junior Michelle Bader easily overcame the duo of Zupanc and Heninger, 6-0, while Rasmussen teamed up with Alvarez Sanabria to finish at 6-2 against Lim and partner Isabel Evans. Gianan and Lancaster, the reigning WAC Women's Doubles Team of the Week, posted yet another win with a 6-4 outing against Silva and Fan.
