SEATTLE – Seattle U women's tennis won their second straight match on Saturday evening, decisively beating South Dakota 5-2 at the Tennis Center at Sand Point.
Four Redhawks won their singles matches. Freshman Jade Lancaster defeated the Coyotes' Agustina Diaz, 6-4, 6-2, while junior Michelle Bader subsequently triumphed over Eesha Varma of South Dakota, 7-6 (7-1), 6-2. In the number four singles slot, sophomore Alisa Sabotic started off shaky but made a strong comeback in a 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 win over opponent Nanette Nylund; meanwhile, classmate Jillian Rasmussen (6-4, 2-6, 7-6 [7-3]) ground out a well-earned three-set tiebreaker win over Berta Girbau. Juniors Hannah Gianan (7-5, 5-7, 3-6) and Kyra Jung (4-6, 3-6) both came close to overcoming opponents Jana Lazarevic and Habiba Aly, respectively, but ultimately lost out on the team sweep.
Doubles play also went well for Seattle U. Sophomores Hannah Grossman and Martina Asciuto teamed up once again, facing Aly and Diaz in a smooth 6-1 victory. Jung and Bader posted the same score against Nylund and partner Natka Kmošková, clinching the doubles point and leaving the third match (Gianan and Lancaster versus Lazarevic and Girbau) unfinished at 4-3.
The Redhawks will head back out on the road next week for two matches in Bozeman, Mont., against Wyoming (Feb. 7) and Montana State (Feb. 8).
