SEATTLE – Closing out a two-week, seven-game road swing to open the 2020-21 season, Seattle University men's basketball succumb to a 73-41 final at Washington Wednesday night.

The Redhawks (3-4) traveled four states, including Oregon, Nevada, California and their home state of Washington over the span, finishing as one of two teams to hit seven games played through Dec. 9.

The opening 10 minutes of play Wednesday night at Alaska Airlines Arena was an energetic and back-and-forth affair. Emeka Udenyi hit Seattle U's first three baskets while Kobe Williamson added a three and the Redhawks led 9-5 at the 15:33 mark.

Udenyi pushed the lead to five, 13-8, and again had Seattle U on top, 17-15, with 9:15 to play. But a Husky 8-0 run began to turn the tide and UW would eventually close out the half on a 22-5 run.

The momentum stayed with UW (1-3) in the second half as Seattle U managed just 7-28 in the frame. The Redhawks finished the night shooting 28.8 percent from the field, including 4-of-23 from three.

"We shot the ball poorly, we rebounded the ball poorly, we defended poorly," said Head Coach Jim Hayford. "UW came very, very hungry. Their pride had been challenged and they responded and played a great basketball game. When we got challenged, we didn't answer the call. We have a lot of work to do as a team."

Udenyi had 12 points and six boards for the Redhawks. Darrion Trammell added nine points and Riley Grigsby had six, all in the second half.

UW was paced by Quade Green's 18 points. Nate Pryor added 10 and Nate Roberts had 10. The Huskies finished shooting better than 46 percent from the field and 53 percent from three.

Seattle U will look to right its ship when it makes its first appearance on its home court on Sunday, hosting Northwest University at 6 p.m.
