SEATTLE — Seattle U's Cross Country and Track and Field team announced today the addition of Joseph Hardy as an assistant coach.
A 2018 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Hardy was a three time All-American on the track and competed three times at Cross Country Nationals. He was a five-time academic All-Big 10 honoree and was an Academic All-American in 2018. On the track, his notable accomplishments include winning the 2015 Big 10 outdoor 1500m. He owns lifetime bests of 3:43 for the 1500m, 7:57 for the 3000m and 13:46 for the 5000m.
"We are excited to add Joe to our coaching staff," said Seattle U Head Coach Kelly Sullivan. "He brings a wealth of personal experience from his own collegiate and high school running career. While at Wisconsin, he was on one of the top NCAA men and women's programs in the nation and was coached by one of the best in our business. Being from the state of Washington and more specifically growing up in the Seattle area, he is very familiar with Seattle University and understands the potential that exists here. I know our young people and staff look forward to having him around to learn from. We have been so fortunate these past three years to have had so many incredible coaches and volunteers who have wanted to be a part of our program and give so much of their time in assisting Chad Pharis and myself. Our goal has been to build a fully comprehensive women and men's track and field program that we can all be very proud of and this addition to the staff is one more step to reaching that ultimate goal."
Prior to his time at Wisconsin, Hardy had an very accomplished prep career at Seattle Prep in his hometown of Seattle. Hardy, won four state titles in cross country and track. Twice he was a Nike Cross Nationals (NXN) individual qualifier and a one time qualifier for Footlocker cross country nationals. He currently works for the King County Housing Authority and lives in Seattle with his girlfriend and their two cats.
"I'm incredibly excited to be joining an up-and-coming program at SU," said Hardy. "I am looking forward to working with and learning from both Kelly and Chad, who both have exceptional coaching pedigrees."
