FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - Seattle University men's golf junior Nathan Cogswell was named Men's Player of the Year by Washington Golf on Thursday. Cogswell and the seven other recipients of the award will be honored at the 99th WA Golf Annual Meeting, which is being conducted virtually Saturday, Nov. 7.

Nathan has had a great 2020 so far, posting wins at both the 2020 Northwest Open Invitational, and the Puget Sound Amateur. He also posted strong finished at the Washington Open Invitational, Washington Men's Amateur, and Washington Men's Champion of Champions where he finished fifth, fourth, and second respectively.

"I am very honored to be named Player of the Year," said Cogswell. "It was not really on my mind so it's definitely a nice surprise. I have had a consistent couple of months of tournament play and have given myself a chance to contend for the title at the end of just about every tournament which feels great. It has been great to see some results during this process and it really helps my confidence. If I can improve some of the weak spots of my game and continue to sharpen my strengths, I know I will be able to continue competing at a high level. I owe a lot to my swing coach, Greg Manley, my coach, my teammates, my family, and all of the people at Meridian Valley who have continued to support me and my game. I am very grateful for them and excited for more tournament golf ahead. "

"This is an amazing honor," said Seattle U Head Coach Marc Chandonnet. "This speaks highly of the consistency Nathan has developed in regards to his golf game. Everyone on Nathan's support team could tell this was coming because of his love for the game and his dedication to hard work. Nathan and I talk a lot about how he can stretch his goals and to believe in himself that he has what it takes to take his game to the highest level. Winning this award signifies that his hard work is paying off and hopefully this motivates him even more to dream bigger than before."

Cogswell is currently competing in the 72nd Hudson Cup, which includes play between professional and amateur golfers.
