WICHITA, Kansas — Seattle U baseball's junior catcher Justin Mazzone was selected to the Buster Posey Award Watch List, as announced by the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission late Monday.
The Buster Posey, formerly known as the Johnny Bench Award, is annually presented to the top Division I collegiate catcher in the nation, with past winners including Joey Bart, Kurt Suzuki and Mike Zunino.
Serving as the primary backstop for the Redhawks, Mazzone has started all 15 games in 2020 and is ranked among team leaders in most major offensive categories including, RBI (t-1st/9), hits (2nd/16), runs scored (t-2nd/8), batting average (3rd/.308), and fourth-overall in slugging (.423). The Huntington Beach, Calif., native has appeared in 116 career games for the Redhawks, hitting .277 with 99 hits, 46 runs scored and 64 RBI, while fielding at a .976-clip for his career.
