SEATTLE – Seattle U track and field exited the Dempsey Indoor facility on Friday with their heads held high after breaking three school records at the Last Chance College Elite Meet, bringing the total number of new program records this season to five. Senior Michelle Newblom (8.86) broke her own record in the 60m hurdles for the second time this year, junior Nathan Pixler (1:52.39) beat his own record from 2019 in the 800m run and sophomore Tallia Sova (11.98m) surpassed a three-year-old mark to become Seattle U's new women's shot put leader.

"Setting three school records in the last meet before the conference championships sets us up very well," said Assistant Coach Chad Pharis. "Michelle has displayed a real commitment to her speed work, which definitely showed up today. Tallia showed a lot of grit this week to put up a terrific performance. Nathan's race was going to be special from the get-go – as soon as he started, we all knew that something big was about to happen."

Newblom also set a new personal record in the 60m dash at 7.96 seconds, while junior Michaela Moore (7.84) and sophomore Tayla Weaver also competed in the event. Weaver set PRs of her own in the 60m and in the long jump. Senior Laurel-Mack Wilson posted a new personal best in the high jump with a jump of 1.55m. On the men's side, sophomore Brant Yamamoto and freshman Tom Topinka each set personal records in the 60m dash and the 200m dash, while sophomore William Sun posted a new personal-best time in the 60m hurdles and sophomore Lucas Milne set his own PR in the long jump.

"The whole team will be able to capitalize on this momentum heading into next week," said Pharis.

Next week, Seattle U will finally head to Boise, Idaho, for the Western Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. The competition will last from Feb. 28-29, with events commencing at 9:00 a.m. on both days.
