Cathcart passed Jane Purdy on the career homer list. Purdy hit 37 home runs in her career and will be inducted into the Seattle U Athletics Hall of Fame on Feb. 22.
Utah homered to even the game in the bottom of the fourth. Stephanie Merwin singled to lead off the fifth and then Cherise Silvan dropped a bunt single. Lily Garcia's sacrifice bunt moved the runners ahead with one out. Alyson Matriotti brought in Merwin with an RBI groundout to second for a 2-1 advantage.
In the bottom half of the frame, the Utes broke out for five runs to swing the game. SU scored once in the sixth, but Utah held on for the 6-3 win.
Merwin went 2-3 with a double and a run to continue her stellar start to the season.
Against the Sun Devils, SU got down early and could not rally. ASU scored five runs in the first inning and added a single score in the second. Freshman Stefanie Madrigal came on in relief and performed well, holding down the Arizona State offense for the rest of the day.
