BOZEMAN, MONT. – Seattle U women's tennis started off their weekend slate with a neutral-court matchup on Friday afternoon against the University of Wyoming in Bozeman, Mont., with aspirations of keeping their winning streak going. Unfortunately for the Redhawks, Wyoming ultimately prevailed, 4-0, in a clinch-shortened match.
Junior Hannah Gianan teamed up with freshman Jade Lancaster in doubles play against Wyoming's Mihaela Kaftanova and Ida Krause, finishing at 2-6, while sophomores Hannah Grossman and Martina Asciuto lost 1-6 against the Cowgirls' Ana Royo and Clara Mansart. Juniors Kyra Jung and Michelle Bader kept things close against Oleksandra Balaba and Maria Oreshkina, but play was stopped at 3-4 when Wyoming clinched the doubles point.
In singles play, Jung made a valiant comeback attempt against Balaba, finishing at 1-6, 4-6, while Gianan posted a 1-6, 0-6 score against Oreshkina. Sophomore Alisa Sabotic battled hard but ultimately fell, 1-6, 0-6, against Krause. Singles play finished after three matches, as Wyoming had clinched the team win; at the time, Bader was up 2-1 over Royo, while Lancaster finished one set, 2-6, against Ana Fernandez.
Next, Seattle U will remain in Bozeman, Mont., to face Montana State on Saturday, Feb. 8. Play will begin at 10:00 a.m. PT.
