WSGA Release | Post-Tournament Interview | Tournament Results
DUPONT, WASH. – The Washington State Golf Association (WSGA) held their exclusive “Champion of Champions” tournament this week on April 23-24 at The Home Course in DuPont, Washington, which featured the best golfers in the state in a Men’s Championship, a Women’s Championship, a Senior Men’s Championship and a Senior Women’s Championship. Coming out on top in the Men’s Championship after two 18-hole rounds was Seattle U freshman Nathan Cogswell, who shot an incredible nine-under 135 after posting scores of 68 and 67.
“I hadn’t played here in a long time,” Cogswell said in a post-tournament interview. “I’ve always liked this course – the greens are very good. I got off to a slow start (on day one), but I picked it up at the end of the round. Today, I wanted to start quicker, got a few birdies… my dad told me to focus on one shot at a time, and make sure I come down the stretch clean.”
Only a select few are eligible to compete in the WSGA Champion of Champions tournament – Cogswell finished in the top five on the Washington Junior Golf Association points list for 2018, qualifying him for entry.
Cogswell’s coach at Seattle U, Marc Chandonnet, was thrilled. “I’m so excited to see Nathan pick up a victory for himself, and I can’t wait to support him and his teammates this weekend at the WAC Championships,” he said. “This tournament fielded some of the best players from the state of Washington, and Nathan was able to get in there and shoot some fantastic scores.”
It will be a quick jump back into competition for Cogswell, as he joins his teammates at the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Golf Championships at the Oakbrook Golf Club in Lakewood, Wash., from April 27-29.
