DENVER – James Morris of Seattle University men’s soccer has been named Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Offensive Player of the Week, for the period ending on Oct. 20. The freshman recorded a hat trick in SU’s 3-2 win at CSU Bakersfield on Saturday night.
Morris, a native of Doncaster, England, tallied all three of his goals in the first half of the Redhawks’ road victory. He scored on headers in the 11th minute, the 15th minute, and the 40th minute. Declan McGlynn earned the assist on all three goals, while Julian Avila-Good added a helper on the third score.
Morris’ hat trick is the third in Division I program history. McGlynn notched a three-goal game on Oct. 6 and David Olsen achieved the feat on Nov. 1, 2015.
In just five games since returning from injury, Morris has six goals and two assists. He has scored on six of his 12 attempted shots this year.
The Redhawks are 8-3-3 overall and 5-0-1 in the WAC. They host two key WAC matches this weekend. They welcome Air Force on Friday night before taking on Utah Valley on Sunday afternoon. Both games will be played at Championship Field.
