NEWS AND NOTES
- Seattle U fell, 2-0, at Utah Valley on Oct. 18. Josh Adachi made three saves, but the Wolverines came away with a key WAC win.
- With its next win, SU will post its sixth straight 11-win season. It is one of five Division I programs to win at least 11 games in each of the last five years.
- Coach Pete Fewing will notch his 300th career win with his next victory. He is in his 25th season at SU’s head coach and he coached his 500th career match on Sept. 9.
- Twelve different Redhawks have scored in 2018, tied for second-most in the nation. Air Force (14) is the only team with more scorers this year.
- Air Force is 13-2-0 this season, including a 10-game winning streak earlier in the year. It has won three straight since losing at CSU Bakersfield on Oct. 5.
- The Falcons are second nationally with 41 goals this season. Only Wake Forest (42) has scored more goals in Division I in 2018.
- AFA won the 2017 WAC regular-season crown before losing to San Jose State in the WAC Tournament semifinals. It was voted to take second in the 2018 WAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
- Seattle U beat CSU Bakersfield, 2-0, on Oct. 13 at Championship Field. Noe Meza and Hal Uderitz scored as the Redhawks claimed their 10th win of the season.
- Seattle U stands third in the nation in shots at 18.4 per game in 2018. It ranks fourth nationally with 7.9 shots on goal per game. The Redhawks rank eighth in goals (30) this year.
- Utah Valley has won five in a row entering Thursday’s game. It beat Kansas City, 2-0, on Oct. 13, as Samuel Krommenhoek and Alec Felix both scored for the Wolverines.
- UVU is tied for first place in the WAC standings with 15 points. Air Force also has 15 points, while the Redhawks are in third with 12 points this season.
- The Wolverines feature a balanced offense, as Austin Buxton and Blake Frischknect have four goals each, while Zach Maas and Alec Felix have three goals apiece.
- SU dropped a 1-0 decision to Grand Canyon on Oct. 7 at Championship Field. It outshot the Lopes, 28-6, in the match, but GCU found the game’s lone goal early in the second half.
- The Redhawks took down UNLV, 4-0, on Oct. 5 at Championship Field. They scored three times in 4:35 early in the second half to break open a scoreless contest. Hamish Ritchie, Harrison Kurtz, and Sergio Rivas scored to make it 3-0 and then Connor Noblat added a late goal in the closing minutes.
- Seattle U posted a six-game winning streak from Sept. 16-Oct. 5. It claimed five straight victories on the road and then came home to defeat UNLV.
- Seattle U wrapped up its six-game road trip with a 5-2 win at Houston Baptist on Sept. 30. Declan McGlynn recorded two goals and an assist, while Cody Gibson had a goal and an assist and Sergio Rivas dished out two helpers.
- The five goals marked a season high for the Redhawks.
- The Redhawks won, 1-0, at Kansas City on Sept. 28, tallying their third straight road shutout. Josh Adachi made a key save late to preserve the lead, while Hal Uderitz scored his first collegiate goal.
- SU put together a scoreless streak of 358:37, dating from its win at Loyola Marymount on Sept. 16 to the victory at HBU on Sept. 30. It blanked San Diego, Washington, and Kansas City in the stretch.
- Seattle U picked up a huge win on Sept. 23, winning at No. 16 Washington, 2-0. Noe Meza and Declan McGylnn scored in the second half, while Josh Adachi made four saves for his third shutout of the year.
- Declan McGlynn and Josh Adachi were named WAC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, for the period ending Sept. 23. McGlynn put up a goal and two assists in the win at San Diego and then scored at Washington. Adachi tallied two shutouts, blanking USD and UW.
- SU drilled San Diego, 4-0, on Sept. 19, as four different Redhawks scored in the road win. Declan McGlynn, Hamish Ritchie, Noe Meza, and Orlando Neto each scored. McGlynn tallied a pair of assists.
- SU held a 19-3 advantage in shots, including a 12-0 margin in shots on goal, in the win at USD.
- Gabriel Ruiz scored in overtime to lift SU to a thrilling 3-2 win at UW in the first round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament. The win was Seattle U’s first at Washington since 1971.
- The Redhawks claimed a dramatic 2-1 win at Loyola Marymount on Sept. 16. Cody Gibson scored the game-winning goal with 36 seconds remaining in regulation. Hal Uderitz assisted on the winner. Declan McGlynn scored his first collegiate goal in the first half of the match.
- SU took a 2-1 setback at California Baptist in the 2018 WAC opener on Sept. 13. Cody Gibson scored in the first half, but the Lancers answered with two goals to get the win in their WAC debut.
- On Sept. 9, Pete Fewing coached his 500th career game at Seattle U. CSUN came away with a 2-1 overtime decision at Championship Field. Sergio Rivas scored late in regulation to force OT.
- SU will look to win the WAC regular-season crown for the third time since 2013. It won both the regular season and tournament titles in 2013 and 2015 before claiming the tournament championship last season.
- The Redhawks beat No. 14 Akron, 2-1, on Sept. 7, as Sergio Rivas and Gabriel Ruiz scored to lift SU to one of its biggest wins in program history. The Zips went to the 2017 Final Four.
- SU opened its home schedule with a pair of wins. It beat UC Santa Barbara, 2-0, on Sept. 2 as Noe Meza and Orlando Neto both scored. The Redhawks outshot the Gauchos, 25-5, including 16-0 in the first half.
- The Redhawks beat Cal Poly, 2-1, on Aug. 31. Connor Noblat scored in the 82nd minute to lift SU to victory in the home opener. Hamish Ritchie scored late in the first half.
- In the win over the Mustangs, Seattle U put up 26 shots. It held an 18-1 advantage in shots in the second half of the contest.
- SU was handed a 4-2 setback at New Mexico on Aug. 24. Julian Avila-Good and Cody Gibson both scored in the regular-season opener.
- The Redhawks were voted favorites in the WAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll, marking the fourth time in the last five years that SU has been chosen to win the league.
- Nathan Aune and Sergio Rivas have been named WAC Preseason Defensive and Offensive Player of the Year, respectively. Aune was a 2017 United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-American and won WAC Defensive Player of the Year. Rivas claimed United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-Region last season.
- Nathan Aune is on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List. He is one of 32 players on the preseason list for soccer’s most prestigious award.
- Josh Adachi, Nathan Aune, Anthony Ayala, and Sergio Rivas were named All-WAC Preseason. The four seniors all earned All-WAC recognition in 2017.
- Pete Fewing is in his 25th season at Seattle U. With one more win, Fewing will pick up his 300th career victory.
