DENVER – (Feb. 19) Madison Cathcart of Seattle University softball has been named Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Hitter of the Week for the period ending Feb. 18. The sophomore hit .467 in five games at the Marucci Desert Classic this weekend.
Cathcart has been one of the top hitters in the nation through two weeks of action. In Las Vegas this weekend, the native of Longview, Wash., went 7-15 with two home runs, two doubles, three runs, two walks, and five RBIs in five outings. She slugged 1.000 and compiled a .529 on-base percentage.
Against San Jose State, Cathcart put up two hits, including a three-run homer. She recorded two hits against UNLV, homering in the first inning.
On the season, Cathcart is batting .438 with a 1.125 slugging percentage. She has six home runs, four doubles, and 12 RBIs. Her home run total ranks second nationally.
SU sports a 6-4 record, tops among WAC teams, in 2018. It heads to the Libby Matson Tournament in Stockton, Calif., this coming weekend.
