NEWS AND NOTES

  • Seattle U settled for a 1-1 tie at Grand Canyon Friday night. Nathan Aune scored in the 83rd minute to force OT and allow the Redhawks to clinch a berth in the WAC Championship for a fith straight year.
  • SU compiled 29 shots, 15 shots on goal and 10 corner kicks in the contest. It leads the nation in all three statistical categories.
  • UNLV is coming off a 3-2 loss to Utah Valley on Friday night. The Rebels fell behind 3-0 before nearly rallying to tie the Wolverines. The loss snapped UNLV’s five-game win streak.
  • The Redhawks beat Houston Baptist, 1-0, on senior night Oct. 22. Julian Avila-Good scored his first goal of the season and Josh Adachi recorded his eighth shutout of the season.
  • Seattle U outshot HBU, 36-3, in the match. The shot total marked a season high and was the most by a Redhawk team since Oct. 5, 2007, when SU tallied 39 shots against the University of Mary.
  • Coach Pete Fewing’s squad is ranked 19th in this week’s College Soccer News poll and 22nd in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll.
  • SU defeated Kansas City, 2-1, on Oct. 14, remaining unbeaten in WAC play.
  • In the win over UMKC, Sergio Rivas and Alex Roldan both scored, giving both players five goals on the year. SU is the lone ranked team to feature four five-goal scorers this season.
  • Seattle U settled for a 2-2 tie with No. 12 Air Force on Oct. 12. Medo Youssef and Habib Barry scored, but the Falcons rallied from a 2-0 deficit to force a draw at Championship Field.
  • Danny Musovski leads the Rebels with 12 goals and five assists. He paces the WAC with 12 goals and 29 points.
  • The Redhawks won, 2-0, at Incarnate Word on Oct. 8. Gabriel Ruiz and Alex Roldan both scored as SU tallied its seventh shutout of the season. It marked Ruiz’s first collegiate goal.
  • SU tied, 2-2, at UTRGV on Oct. 6. Medo Youssef scored two goals as the Redhawks settled for a draw in their WAC road opener.

  • Josh Adachi was named WAC Defensive Player of the Year on Oct. 2. The redshirt junior goalkeeper notched two shutouts in two home wins for his first conference weekly honor.
  • SU held a 22-1 advantage in shots in the win over CSUB on Sept. 29. Seattle U leads the nation in shots per game at 20.7.
  • Seattle U lost to No. 19 Washington, 2-0, for the WAC/101 Club Cup on Sept. 24. The game was played in front of a sellout crowd at Championship Field. The decision also broke SU’s 21-game home win streak.
  • The Redhawks defeated Drexel, 1-0, on Sept. 17. Cody Gibson scored his fifth goal in three games, as Josh Adachi made four saves to pick up his fourth shutout of the season.
  • SU outshot the Dragons, 32-4, on Sept. 17. It marked the most shots by a Redhawk unit since Oct. 5, 2007, when SU tried 39 shots against the University of Mary.
  • SU scored four times in the second half on its way to a 5-2 win over Santa Clara on Sept. 14. Cody Gibson and Alex Roldan both scored two goals as the Redhawks won their 20th straight game at Championship Field.
  • For the first time since SU’s return to Division I, two Redhawks scored twice in the same game. Cody Gibson and Alex Roldan each recorded a pair of goals in the win over Santa Clara.
  • Seattle U went to No. 22 Gonzaga and came away with a 2-0 win on Sept. 9. Cody Gibson scored two goals and Josh Adachi made a pair of saves for his third shutout of the year.
  • SU took down Mercer, 2-1 in overtime, on Sept. 7. Sergio Rivas scored 1:42 into OT to lift the Redhawks to their 19th straight win at Championship Field, the longest active home win streak in Division I.
  • Seattle U outshot the Bears, 28-4, in the contest. The 28 Redhawk shots were the most by an SU squad since Sept. 16, 2015, when it attempted 28 shots in a 3-0 win over Northwestern.
  • Before allowing a goal to Mercer late in the first half on Sept. 7, SU had gone 308:01 without surrendering a goal at Championship Field.
  • Seattle U opened the 2017 season with a pair of impressive 1-0 victories at Championship Field last weekend. The Redhawks took down Loyola Marymount on Aug. 25 before beating No. 20 New Mexico on Aug. 27. Noe Meza and Nathan Aune scored SU’s goals as Seattle U moved its home winning streak to 18 games.
  • SU entered the United States Soccer Coaches Association (USSCA) Top 25 at No. 25 the week of Aug. 28. It was the Redhawks’ first appearance in the poll since last August.
  • Junior Nathan Aune earned WAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after two stellar showings to open the 2017 season. Aune was key in the Redhawks holding their opponents to 10 total shots over two outings. It marks the first weekly award for the Arlington, Wash., native.
  • Pete Fewing is in his 24th overall season as SU’s head coach. He has won 285 games in his career.
  • Rich Ryerson is in his seventh year as UNLV’s head coach. He guided the Rebels to a WAC Championship last season, as they advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
