DENVER – (May 2) Seattle University's Marc Chandonnet and Zack Overstreet have been named the 2016-17 Western Athletic Conference Men's Golf Coach and Freshman of the Year, respectively, as the league office released it's 2016-17 All-WAC honors Tuesday.
Overstreet was named WAC Freshman of the Year after leading Seattle U to the team title at the 2017 WAC Men's Golf Championship. He posted a 73.06 stroke average in his first collegiate season and took third at the conference championship, using a 5-under-par 66 in the final round to finish with an even-par 213.
Chandonnet earns his first WAC Coach of the Year honor after guiding the Redhawks to their first WAC men's golf title. A graduate of Grand Canyon, he has headed both the men's and women's golf programs at Seattle U since 2012.
Overstreet was one of three Redhawks to be among the 10 total first and second team All-WAC honorees. The rookie, a first team selection, was joined by senior Kyle Cornett on the first team. Senior Ross Kukula was named to the second team All-WAC.
Cornett placed second overall at the 2017 WAC Championship with a one-under-par 212. Kukula was the third best Redhawk finisher, placing in a tie for 11th with a seven-over-par 220.
