The women's basketball held its annual year-end banquet on April 5, as the Redhawks recognized those responsible for their run to the postseason in 2016-17.

SEATTLE (April 7) – Seattle University women’s basketball celebrated its 2016-17 season with the team banquet on Wednesday night. The event, hosted at the Crowne Plaza, commemorated the Redhawks’ strong season under first-year Head Coach Suzy Barcomb.

Seattle U won 15 games this season, finishing second in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) regular season and advancing to the WAC Championship game in Las Vegas. Alexis Montgomery was named First Team All-WAC, while Kamira Sanders earned WAC Freshman of the Year. Senior Kaylee Best was chosen Second Team All-WAC after becoming the 16th player in program history to score 1,000 career points.

At Wednesday’s banquet, the coaches presented awards, as Best (Challenge, Commitment, Courage), Montgomery (Most Valuable Offensive Player), Wilma Afunugo (Scholarship, Skill, and Determination), Claire Metoyer (Most Outstanding Defensive Player), and Jacinta Beckley (Iron Hawk and Most Improved Player) each won for their efforts this season.

SU also honored its six seniors-Afunugo, Best, Metoyer, Kaylee Biddell, Shaylin Heredia, and Delanie Parry. Coaches, student-athletes, and athletic department staff members spoke about the season, as the event served as an emotional cap on a foundation-building season at Seattle U.
