VANCOUVER (Jan. 28) – On the final day of the regular season, Seattle University men’s swimming team won, 111-92, at Simon Fraser Saturday afternoon. Mitchell Crossen, Tanner Schelling, Morgan Montemayor, and Connor Webb each won individual races for the Redhawks at Margaret and Paul Savage Pool.
“We started off a little slow,” said Coach Craig Nisgor. “We had a good comeback and really put the hammer down in the last two events. It was a really great win for us that came down to the last event.”
With the meet on the line, the 200 free relay team of Greg Raper, Alec Barnard, Jacob Morris, and Ian Keane won with a time of 1:34.98, lifting the Redhawks to victory.
Crossen swam a 1:55.26 to win the 200 freestyle race. Zach Zenteno and Morgan Montemayor took third and fourth in the event, respectively.
In the 50 freestyle, Schelling posted a 23.67 to touch first. Raper and Jack Baldoni placed third and fourth, respectively.
Montemayor was the winner in the 200 backstroke. He recorded a 2:07.87 to win easily.
In the 200 breaststroke, Webb won, with Schelling taking second. Webb notched a 2:22.30, while Schelling swam a 2:23.50 in the race.
“Mitchell, Grant, and Connor were great today,” said Nisgor. “Morgan was big as well.”
Grant Gooding claimed runner-up honors in the 200 IM. He logged a 2:09.25 in the contest. In the 200 butterfly, Barnard, Shawn Fujii, and Baldoni collected spots two through four in the event.
Crossen, Raper, and Ian Keane finished second, third, and fourth, respectively, in the 100 freestyle.
The Redhawks wrapped up the regular season with a 6-4 record. They will next compete at the WAC Championships Feb. 22-25 in Houston.
“We have stuff to clean up,” said Nisgor. “But we swam well and we’ll look to make things happen in a couple weeks.”
