SEATTLE (Dec. 3) - Seattle University men’s swimming continued competition at the 68th Annual Husky Invitational Saturday. Tanner Schelling, Jason Klein, and Jack Baldoni each won as the Redhawks set a pair of school records on the second day of action at the event.
"The teams (men and women) are swimming very well and keep on improving," said Coach Craig Nisgor. "Blaise and Tanner are doing swims that put them as top competitors in our conference and will rank them very highly in the national rankings."
Schelling won the 100 breaststroke, breaking his own school record. He notched a 53.85 on Saturday, besting his previous record of 54.25 from last February. Schelling's time also qualified as an NCAA 'B' cut time.
In the 100 backstroke preliminaries, Morgan Montemayor set a program record, swimming a 49.76 to win. His time broke the Seattle U record of 49.86, held by Bart Wanot in February 2015. Later in the day, Klein won in the finals of the event. His 49.84 time beat the rest of the field by nearly a full second and moved into second on the all-time SU list. Montemayor did not compete in the finals.
In the 200 medley relay, the group of Klein, Schelling, Baldoni, and Greg Raper, recorded a time of 1:31.02 to win the race. The showing is the fifth-fastest in program history.
Baldoni won the 100 butterfly, swimming a 48.58 on his way to victory. Alec Barnard took third in the event, touching the wall in 50.05.
SU took second in the 800 free relay. The foursome swam a 6:47.11 to finish in the runner-up slot.
