SEATTLE (Nov. 22) - Seattle University swimming has announced the signing of five athletes for its class of 2017. This marks the highest number of early signees Coach Craig Nisgor has brought in at Seattle U.
For the men, Taj Mercer and John Neton are set to become Redhawks next year.
On the women’s side, Kailey DeLozier, Sherlyn Devadason, and Bryn Lasher will join the program for the 2017-18 season.
“We are really excited as this is the largest group of commitments that we have gotten in the fall,” said Nisgor. “It is a really strong class that has been developing at a rapid rate and getting much faster. Jack, Sherlyn and Bryn already have times that would rank in the all-time top 10 times here at Seattle University and Taj and Kailey are just slightly off that list. All of them bring a lot to the table as athletes, students and individuals who really believe in the mission of Seattle U and our team. As we have a large group graduating this year, it is nice to know that we have such a strong group who will be able to continue the success of our program.”
Mercer is a Bend, Oregon, native. He has competed in the 200 IM, 100 butterfly, 100 breaststroke, and 500 freestyle at Summit High. He helped Summit win a pair of state championships. In 2015, Mercer was an All-American nominee, as well as team MVP.
Neton, a native of Long Beach, California, will focus on the breaststroke and IM events. He has earned Harry J. Moore All-League three times and was named Long Beach Press Telegram Dream Team Swimmer of the Year in 2016. Neton went undefeated in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke in each of the last two seasons.
DeLozier will compete in sprint freestyle events. She is from Hopkins, Minnesota. The St. Louis Park High product was a three-time Single A all-state performer. She earned NCS All-Conference honors each year from 2010-16.
Devadason comes to SU from San Ramon, California. She was an NCS finalist and was a member of California High’s school record-breaking 4x100 free relay team.
Lasher joins SU from Gresham, Oregon. She was tabbed team MVP in 2015. Lasher also picked up her team’s Most Inspirational award in 2014. She holds Gresham High’s record in the 100 butterfly.
Seattle U heads to the three-day Husky Invitational for its next event this weekend.
