SEATTLE (Nov. 19) - Seattle University men’s swimming defeated Pacific Lutheran, 161-43, Saturday at the Connolly Complex. The Redhawks won all 11 events in the meet, with Tanner Schelling and Morgan Montemayor each winning two races.

“We swam well today,” said Coach Craig Nisgor. “We had some people swim events they don’t usually swim and they did pretty well. It’s great to win every event.”

Seattle U finished 1-2-3 in seven races on the day, rolling to victory at home.

Schelling tallied a time of 10:02.52, winning the 1000 freestyle for the Redhawks. He also recorded a victory in the 100 breaststroke. Schelling swam a 57.31 to beat out Connor Webb and Ben Nussbaum, who took second and third, respectively.

In the 200 freestyle, Montemayor, Austin Barnard, and Zach Zenteno finished 1-2-3 for SU. Montemayor logged a time of 1:46.05 to win the event. He also won the 100 backstroke, recording a 51.76 time.

Greg Raper, Jr., led a stellar performance in the 50 freestyle, with Raper, Jr., Alec Barnard, and Jack Baldoni touching first for Seattle U. Raper, Jr., won with a 21.61 time, with Barnard (21.79) and Baldoni (21.93) just behind.

Jason Klein led a 1-2-3 showing in the 100 IM, swimming a 54.66 to win the race. Grant Gooding and Ben Nussbaum followed for the Redhawks.

Baldoni, Alec Barnard, and Shawn Fujii were the top three finishers in the 100 butterfly. Baldoni won with a 50.81 time.

SU also went 1-2-3 in the 100 freestyle. Jacob Morris won with a time of 48.26, while Ian Keane and Klein touched second and third, respectively.

“Jacob was really strong today,” said Nisgor.

Austin Barnard touched first in the 500 freestyle, leading another 1-2-3 showing for the Redhawks. Luke Christensen, and Raper, Jr., followed in the race.

In the 200 freestyle relay, SU swam a 1:28.65 to win. The 200 medley relay team swam a 1:34.52, claiming first in the event.

Julian Morales also posted personal-best times in his freestyle races Saturday.

The Redhawks next compete at the Husky Invitational on Dec. 2-4.

“We have a really good attitude right now,” said Nisgor. “We’ll look to keep swimming good times and keep the team’s spirits up.”
