LOS ANGELES (Nov. 11) - Seattle University women’s soccer fell, 3-0, at #18 UCLA in an NCAA Tournament first-round match Friday night. The Bruins scored a goal in each half to win the contest, held at Drake Stadium.
UCLA (14-5-1) scored 3:11 into the game, as Anika Rodriguez finished a shot low from near the top of the penalty box. Sunny Dunphy assisted on the goal.
As the half continued, the Redhawks (14-6-1) worked to challenge the UCLA defense. Brie Hooks and Natasha Howe each put shots on goal and SU earned a corner kick. The score remained 1-0 through one half, with the hosts holding a slim 5-4 margin in shots.
In the second frame, Seattle U tested the Bruins more, but UCLA held up, and in the 60th minute, Zoey Goralski scored on a shot from outside of the box on the right side.
The hosts tacked on a third goal, scored by Amber Munerlyn, at the 82:56 mark.
UCLA outshot SU, 12-7. Mackenzie Curry tallied three saves in net for the Redhawks.
Coach Julie Woodward’s squad qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the third time in four years. It won has won four straight WAC regular season titles and three of the last four WAC Tournament crowns.
