SEATTLE – (Oct. 30) On the heels of wrapping up their fall practices and games, the Seattle University baseball team spent some quality time giving back to the local community during the month of October, culminating with their Fourth Annual Halloween Charity Game.
The annual charity event was the brain child of former Redhawk Brock Carpenter, who initiated the event as a way to raise money for the Seattle Children's Hospital. Carpenter concluded his career with Seattle U last spring after being drafted in the 20th round by the LA Dodgers, but his event lives on.
This year, senior Connor Moore took on the event with the support of the Seattle U Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. The players devide into two teams and play a softball or whiffle ball game at SU Park. Donations are made on-site during the event with all procedes going to the Seattle Children's Hospital.
"I am very proud that the boys have continued this event which goes toward a wonderful cause," said SU Head Coach Donny Harrel. "This event truly reflects what we are all about at SU - doing something to help others."
Earlier this month, members of the baseball team went to Northwest Harvest to help the organization sort through the numerous food donations it receives on a daily basis. Northwest Harvest will distribute the food to its network of more than 380 food banks, meal programs, and high-need schools, provide more than two million meals every month.
