SEATTLE (Oct. 27) – Sam Langston of Seattle University men’s soccer has been named to the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-District Team®. Langston, a senior, has been one of the Redhawks’ top defenders this season.

From the CoSIDA website, “To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.”

Langston was one of 12 men’s soccer players chosen for the District 8 team. Only three WAC players made the squad this fall. The native of Sammamish, Washington, has a 3.37 grade point average while majoring in finance. He will now be on the ballot for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.

On the field, Langston has put up two goals and two assists in 14 appearances. He has made 13 starts on the back line. He has been a key member of a Redhawk defense that has allowed the second-fewest goals in the WAC this season.

Langston is a two-time WAC All-Academic selection. He also earned All-WAC Second Team honors last season. Langston helped SU win a WAC Championship and a WAC regular season title in 2015.

Coach Pete Fewing has now landed three players on academic all-district teams in the last four seasons. Hamza Haddadi (2015) and Michael Roberts (2013) were both selected previously.

Seattle University hosts UNLV in its final home match of the regular season tonight. The WAC contest is slated for a 7 p.m. start at Championship Field. Langston will be one of eight seniors recognized before the match.
