SEATTLE - (Oct. 22) Senior Matea Mamic achieved a milestone and Katarina Marinkovic had another standout match for Seattle University volleyball as the Redhawks dropped a 3-0 decision to Western Athletic Conference leader New Mexico State Saturday afternoon.
With her fifth kill of the match, Mamic became the third Redhawk since the transition to Division I (in 2008) to reach the 1,000 kill mark. She joins Cristin Richards (2008-11, 1,458 kills) and Kaytlyn Dill (2008-12, 1,199 kills) in the elite category. Mamic finished the match with eight kills bringing her career total to 1,003.
Coming off a career-high 26 kills versus UTRGV on Thursday, Marinkovic led Seattle U with 11 kills, hitting .333 for the match. The Redhawks got little other help, however, hitting just .141 as a team.
Seattle U dropped to 11-11 overall and 4-5 WAC play while the Aggies improve to 19-5 on the season and 9-0 in league play.
Jordan Abalos led NMSU with 16 kills and Tatyana Battle added 13.
Set one was back and forth battle and just a two-point spread late, 20-18, in favor of the Aggies. But NMSU rallied for five of the seven points to take a 25-20 win.
New Mexico State would go on two win the next two sets 25-16 and 25-15.
Seattle U heads back out on the road next week, traveling to WAC opponents Chicago State and UMKC on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.
