SEATTLE - (Oct. 16) Seattle University men’s soccer remained unbeaten in Western Athletic Conference play with a 2-1 win over visiting Grand Canyon Sunday night at Championship Field.

Isidro Prado-Huerta and David Olsen tallied first-half goals as the Redhawks improved to 9-4-1 overall and 5-0-1 in WAC play. The Lopes got a late second-half goal from Charles Keating, but would not be able to find the equalizer as they fell to 4-7-3 overall and 1-2-3 in league games.

“This was a very good game,” said SU Head Coach Pete Fewing. “Grand Cnayon is very athletic, very organized, very well coached and not easy to break down.”

Prado-Huerta put the Redhawks on the board 15 minutes into the game when he followed up on a blocked save on a shot by Sergio Rivas. Rivas took a shot attempt straight away from 12 yards out that was stopped by GCU goalkeeper Kendal Day. But the save popped back out into the box for Prado-Huerta to follow up on and send it into the open net.

“I was pleased with our goals tonight,” Fewing said. “We’ve been looking for a garbage goal and we got one tonight form Isidro. We’ve scored a lot of pretty goals and it’s good to get an ugly one.”

Olsen notched the eventual game winner in the 39th minute for his fourth goal of the year. Following a turnover in the backfield, Alex Roldan sent a long ball upfield, splitting the GCU defenders, to a streaking Olsen into space up the right side.

Olsen charged straight at Day, and as the keeper came off his line, Olsen chipped a shot perfectly over his head and the lofting shot landed just under the crossbar into the back of the net.

Keating scored his third goal of the season for GCU in the 78th minute, taking a cross in from Damian German and beating SU goalkeeper Jordan Hadden from eight yards out.

The two sides finished deadlocked with 14 shots apiece and both Hadden and Day made six saves.

Seattle U returns to action Friday, Oct. 21 at Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas. The Redhawks then return to Championship Field Sunday, Oct. 23 to host UTRGV.
