SEATTLE - (Sept. 9) Brie Hooks scored her fourth goal of the season for the Seattle University women’s soccer team, but the Redhawks could not hold the lead in a 2-1 setback to Idaho Friday night at Championship Field.

The senior striker put SU (2-3-1) on the board in the 37th minute with a beautiful strike from just outside the top of the 18-yard box. After an attempted clear by Idaho goalkeeper Torell Stewart hit off of a Redhawk player, the ball fell to Hooks who struck it hard into the upper left netting.

Seattle U’s lead stood until the 71st minute when a tackle by Kelsey Vogel on the edge of the 18-yard box awarded the Vandals (2-2-2) a penalty kick opportunity.

Idaho’s Elexis Schlossarek beat SU’s Ashley Routh to the goalkeeper’s right, knotting the score at 1-1.

Grasping onto the momentum swing, the Vandals came through with the go-ahead goal less than six minutes later. Olivia Baggerly sent a through ball towards the top of the box for Kayla Watanabe who sent a shot into the upper left corner of the net with just under 13 minutes to play.

Natasha Howe gave the Redhawks their best chance at an equalizer, collecting a cross on the left side of the six, but her shot attempt went right at Idaho’s Stewart.

The evenly played match saw both teams finish with nine shot attempts. Stewart made a pair of saves for the Vandals while Routh made one for SU.

Seattle U is back in action Thursday, Sept. 15 at Washington State. Kick off is scheduled for 5 p.m. in Pullman.
