SEATTLE – (Sept. 1) Seattle University and Portland played to a 1-1 double-overtime draw Friday afternoon at Husky Soccer Stadium as play opened at the 2016 Husky Nike Invitational.

Both goals scored came early in the first half and would stand for the balance of the match despite 19 total shots taken.

Portland (2-1-1) struck first, just inside the 19th minute of play as Natalie Muth headed home a free kick off the foot of Allison Wetherington.

The Redhawks (2-1-1) responded in the form of Brie Hooks, who tallied her third goal of the season. The senior transfer received a ball from Karli White on a counterattack, touched it towards the top of the 18 and beat Pilots’ goalkeeper Hanna Da Haan to the left for the equalizer at the 27:34 mark.

“I was really happy with the number of chances we created for ourselves today,” said SU Head Coach Julie Woodward. “This was definitely a game we can build from and was our most complete game of the year form beginning to end. I also thought Natasha Howe had a very special game for us today.”

Howe finished with a team-high five shots, including three on frame, for SU. The Redhawks dominated offensively with an overwhelming 15-4 shot advantage.

De Haan finished with seven saves in goal for the Pilots while Ashley Routh made two saves on Portland’s four shot attempts.

The Redhawks make their Championship Field debut on Monday, hosting crosstown rival Washington. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
