AKRON, Ohio - (Aug. 26) Seattle University men’s soccer struck twice in the first half Friday against West Virginia on its way to a 2-0 shutout of the Mountaineers in both teams’ season opener at the Akron Classic.

Junior Alex Roldan scored the lone goal the 14th-ranked Redhawks would end up needing, striking in the 15th minute off of an assist from senior Jeff Rose.

As the first half of play wound down, senior Joseph Harris doubled the score for SU, finding the back of the net at the 43:28 mark. Julio Rubio was credited with the assist on the goal.

RJ Noll collected the shutout in goal for SU, making four saves on West Virginia’s 16 total shots.

“We scored two terrific goals and I was very pleased to get the shutout,” said SU Head Coach Pete Fewing. “West Virginia is a very talented team and this was terrific way to start the season. I’m very happy for the guys and we’re excited about game number two against Akron on Sunday.”

The Redhawks and Zips face off Sunday at 6:30 p.m. local, 4:30 p.m. PT from FirstEnergy Stadium.
