The Seattle University athletics department was well-represented at KeyArena at Seattle Center Sunday, as 57 students who competed within the Redhawk athletics program during the 2015-16 academic year were eligible to participate in the 97th Seattle University Commencement.

The College of Arts and Sciences Richard P. Hickey Award was given to rower Jen Cruz (B.S. Psychology, cum laude) based upon her total contributions to academic life within the college.  Cruz led her peers in the college across the stage. Other College of Arts and Sciences graduates include Haley Beckstrom (B.A. Communication Studies), Deshaun Sunderhaus (B.C.J. Criminal Justice), Patrick Clifford (B.A. English, cum laude), Rachel Wong (B.A. English/Creative Writing, magna cum laude), Cydnee Ceballos (B.A. Interdisciplinary Liberal Studies), Sam Donohue (B.A Political Science & Spanish, magna cum laude), Lindsay Frederick (B.S. Psychology, magna cum laude), Gus Arroyo (B.S. Sport & Exercise Science, magna cum laude), Rebecca Lassere (B.S. Sport & Exercise Science & French, cum laude), Alisa Poplawski (B.S Sport & Exercise Science, magna cum laude), Rose Saenz (B.S. Sport & Exercise Science), Martina Samadan (B.S. Sport & Exercise Science), Brianna Smallidge (B.S. Sport & Exercise Science), Devon Walker (B.S. Sport & Exercise Science), Jack Crook (B.A. Strategic Communication), Jamie Hall (B.A. Strategic Communication), Taelor Ross (B.A. Strategic Communication) and Austin Sweeney (B.A. Strategic Communication).

Kristin Stoffel (B.A. Business Administration – Marketing, summa cum laude) received the Paul A. Volpe Award given to the outstanding senior in Albers School of Business and Economics based on academic excellence and contributions to the school, university and the community.

Sarah Coluccio (B.A. Business Administration – Accounting, cum laude), Nick Connors (B.A. Business Administration – Accounting), Taylor de Laveaga (B.A. Business Administration – Economics, magna cum laude), Tanner Berkabile (B.A. – Economics), Sheldon Stober (B.A. – Economics), Ted Hammond (B.A. Business Administration – Finance), Juhee Lee (B.A. Business Administration – Finance), Gus Orlando (B.A. Business Administration – Finance & Accounting, summa cum laude), Jeff Rose (B.A. Business Administration – Finance & Business Economics, cum laude), Stephanie Bayless (B.A. Business Administration – International Business, cum laude), Grant Gunning (B.A. Business Administration – Management & Marketing), Hamza Haddadi (B.A. Business Administration – Management, cum laude), Cash McGuire (B.A. Business Administration – Management), Shaddye Melu (B.A. Business Administration – Management), Isabella Geronimo (B.A. Business Administration – Marketing), Mariana Osuna (B.A. Business Administration – Marketing), Allie McGavock (B.A. Business Administration – Marketing) represented the athletics department as graduates from Albers School of Business and Economics.

Six student-athletes Bachelor in Science in Nursing graduates include Kelly Beck (cum laude), Stephanie Conard, Emily Hedberg (magna cum laude), Jane Liggett, Elena Smith (cum laude) and Stephanie Stoll (cum laude). Within the Matteo Ricci College, Ian Clare (B.A. Humanities for Leadership) was the only student-athlete graduate this year.

Lastly, eleven student-athletes completed their degrees in the College of Science and Engineering, including Kristen James (B.S. Biochemistry, cum laude), Amanda Beyke (B.A. Biology), Brian Nguyen (B.S. Biology, summa cum laude) Chris Weinert (B.S. Biology), Baxter Arguinchona (B.S. Cell and Molecular Biology), Abigail Wells (B.S. Cell and Molecular Biology & Environmental Science, magna cum laude), Collin Overbay (B.S Computer Science & Physics), Julia Moravec (B.S. Environmental Science), Nathan McLaughlin (B.S. General Science, magna cum laude), Michael Roberts (B.S. Mechanical Engineering) and Will Topp (B.S. Mechanical Engineering).

Former women’s soccer student-athlete Kiana Kraft also graduated, receiving her Master of Professional Accounting.

For the tenth straight year, the graduating student-athletes gathered for a group photo, once again joining Director of Athletics Bill Hogan and other athletic staff members as well as several coaches at the International Fountain within Seattle Center.
