“I am so proud of our team,” said head coach Geoff Hirai. “Our senior class set the standard for what we want to achieve as a program and I’m thankful to them. We continue our mission to be the first.”
In game one vs. Utah Valley, the Redhawks took a 4-2 lead through the first two innings, scoring three in the second on a Kaylee Ree (Gresham, Ore.) double to left center. SU plated three more in the fourth and held the Wolverines off en route to a 7-2 win.
In the nightcap, NM State took a 6-0 lead through the first two and a half thanks in part to Tatum Reedy’s three-run homer in the first.
The Redhawks cut the deficit, 6-2, in the third and would plate a run apiece in the fourth and fifth to pull it within two, 6-4. Maddy Kristjanson (Mountlake Terrace, Wash.) hit a home run on the first pitch she faced with one out in the fourth and Ree would score on a Breanna Timmons (Santa Maria, Calif.) single to right in the fifth.
Ree (4-for-7) and Kristjanson (4-for-6) led the Redhawks at the plate on the day.
Seattle U surpassed their win total from 2015 and earned two wins in the conference tournament for the first time since entering the league. They say goodbye to their three member senior class – Isabella Geronimo (San Mateo, Calif.), Rose Saenz (San Gabriel, Calif.), and Hayley Beckstrom (Maple Valley, Wash.) – with the end of the season.
