“I am proud of this team and especially the seniors on how they played,” said head coach Geoff Hirai. “Now we start with a clean slate and get ready for the WAC tournament here at home in two weeks.”
Two innings made the difference for Seattle U as they scored five in the third and three more in the fourth. Rose Saenz (San Gabriel, Calif.) singled home Paige Bouska (Keizer, Ore.) for the first run before Savannah Loomis (Roseville, Calif.) drove in Saenz and Isabella Geronimo (San Mateo, Calif.) on a double to center field. Two batters later, Hayley Beckstrom (Maple Valley, Wash.) capped the end of the regular season the same way she started it, with a two-run home run to bring Loomis home.
Leading 5-2 heading into the bottom of the fourth after Brianna Gatlin hit a two-run homer in the top of the frame, Seattle U scored three more to lead 8-2. The Wolverines cut into their deficit in the seventh on a Breezy Roth RBI triple but the Redhawks closed out the win with a final out.
Bouska and Saenz each went 2-for-4 at the plate, scoring two runs apiece, while Beckstrom and Loomis were credited with two RBIs. Andie Larkins (Tucson, Ariz.) picked up her second win of the weekend, striking out four in the complete game outing.
Following the contest, the program honored the team’s three-member senior class – Geronimo, Saenz, and Beckstrom – in their final regular season home game.
