In similar fashion to Saturday, Seattle University baseball (29-18, 16-5 WAC) nearly tied the game but ultimately dropped the series finale, 7-5, at NM State (27-20, 15-6 WAC). Despite the loss, the Redhawks remain in first place in Western Athletic Conference standings by one game.

The Aggies scored two in the second on a solo LJ Hatch home run and a Brent Sakurai RBI single before the Redhawks cut their deficit in half, 2-1, as Sheldon Stober (Kent, Wash.) drove in Griffin Andreychuk (Nanaimo, B.C., Canada) on a RBI double in the third.

Seattle U scored one more in the fourth as Lucas Denney (Goldendale, Wash.) hit a one-out home run on the first pitch he faced but a balanced, steady NM State attack would give the Aggies a 7-2 lead through six.

Chase Ridder (Lake Stevens, Wash.) drove home two in the eighth on a two-out home run before Stober scored in the ninth on a Sean Sutton (Coeur d’Alene, Idaho) double to cut into the deficit, 7-5, but it would be as close as they would come.

At the plate, Stober went 4-for-5 with a run and an RBI to lead the way for Seattle U.

Seattle U closes their 2016 home schedule with four games at Bannerwood Park this week, hosting Washington State on Wednesday at 12 noon and Northern Colorado for a three-game series this weekend.
