In defense of last year’s win for each boat at the Covered Bridge Regatta, the novice 8+ finished second while the varsity 8+ finished fifth.
"We had a tough week dealing with illnesses, injuries, and last minute lineup changes," said head coach Jenny Park. "Considering everything, both boats pulled it together in a difficult situation and performed well."
The Redhawk novice 8+ finished second ahead of boats from Oregon and Chico State with a time of 8:04.51 while the varsity 8+ crossed the finish line at 7:19.78 ahead of Santa Clara and just behind Portland.
After stroking the novice 8+ at last week’s Husky Open, Taylor Woo (Renton, Wash.) moved up to the four seat in the varsity 8+ boat for today’s race. Lucy Fu (Las Vegas, Nev.) also returned to stroke the varsity 8+ boat.
The Redhawks take a few weeks off from competition to prepare for the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships at the end of the month (Apr. 30-May 1) in Rancho Cordova, Calif. They return to Seattle for the Opening Day Regatta and Windermere Cup the first weekend of May before closing the season at the Pacific Coast Rowing Championships (PCRC) on Saturday, May 14.
