The Redhawks took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning of game one on a two-RBI Isabella Geronimo (San Mateo, Calif.) double to center field before the Wolverines responded with three in the next half inning to lead, 3-2.
Seattle U regained the lead, 6-3, in the bottom of the third on four hits including a two-RBI Kaylee Ree (Gresham, Ore.) double to left field. The Wolverines scored one unearned run in the fourth to pull within two, 6-4, but SU preserved the lead for the win.
In game two, Utah Valley took a 3-0 lead on a three-run homer from Tiani Hensley but the Redhawks would tie the game in the second on four hits and took the lead, 4-3, in the third on a Hayley Beckstrom (Maple Valley, Wash.) RBI single. The Wolverines, however, scored four runs in the sixth on three hits and two SU errors to regain the lead and would go the distance for the victory.
On the day, among those with multiple at bats, Ree led SU at the plate, batting 4-for-6 (.667) with a double and two RBIs. A successful day at the plate, five Redhawks tallied a batting average of .400 or higher.
Andie Larkins (Tucson, Ariz.) picked up the win in game one, striking out five, while Alyssa Reuble (Lynnwood, Wash.) matched her career high nine strikeouts in game two (last: Mar. 25, 2016 vs. San Diego).
The Redhawks and Wolverines face on Saturday at 2 p.m. in order to decide the series winner in SU’s regular season finale. Following the game, this year’s senior class – Beckstrom, Geronimo, and Rose Saenz (San Gabriel, Calif.) – will be honored.
