Seattle University head softball coach Geoff Hirai announces the signing of two players who will compete for the Redhawks starting in the 2016-17 season – Madison Cathcart and Nicole Bolasky.

Cathcart is currently a senior at RA Long High School in Longview, Wash. She was named First Team All-League three times, during her freshman through junior seasons, and received Offensive Player of the Year honors as a freshman. Cathcart received the Team MVP nod as both a sophomore and a junior. The first baseman also competes with the Northwest Bullets – Campos travel team.

“Madison is an elite hitter that will bring power to our lineup next year,” said Hirai. “Her confidence in the batter’s box is exactly what we are looking for here at Seattle University.”

Bolasky, a Moreno Valley, Calif. native, joins the SU softball team from Lower Columbia College as a catcher and outfielder. During her freshman season, she averaged .370 at the plate with 45 runs and 37 stolen bases and as a sophomore, she batted .468 with 39 stolen bases and 52 hits. Academically, she has been on the Dean’s List each year at LCC.

“Nicole has the attitude and competitiveness that we are looking for here at Seattle University,” Hirai notes. “She has exceptional speed and will have immediate impact on our program next year.”

The 2016 Redhawks host UMKC and Utah Valley over the next two weekends to finish the regular season before hosting the Western Athletic Conference tournament May 12-14.
