After the Redhawks loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the sixth, GCU pitcher Taylor Nowlin hit Molly Campbell (San Diego, Calif.) to advance Kaylee Ree (Gresham, Ore.) home for SU’s first run of the game. Later in the inning, Isabella Geronimo (San Mateo, Calif.) would come around to score on a bases-loaded walk. Trailing 9-2, Seattle U tacked on one more in the seventh on a Rose Saenz (San Gabriel, Calif.) RBI double to right center in the seventh, but she was left on base to end the game.
Much of the ‘Lopes scoring output came in the first inning when they scored five on an equal number of hits, including a Sierra Smith two-RBI single up the middle. Four fielding errors proved costly for the Redhawks, three of which came in the seventh inning as GCU scored two runs.
Nowlin picked up her first win of the weekend in the circle, pitching six innings while allowing two runs and striking out two. Andie Larkins (Tucson, Ariz.) gave up the first five runs in just 2/3 innings pitched to suffer the loss for SU.
On the day, Saenz picked up three of Seattle U’s six hits, going 3-for-4 with an RBI while Ree also registered a multi-hit outing (2-for-3) with two runs scored.
