Seattle University softball (14-20, 0-1 WAC) held New Mexico State (21-16, 1-0 WAC) to just a two-run advantage through the first three and a half innings but a large fourth inning for the Aggies propelled them to a 12-0 win in the teams’ Western Athletic Conference opener.

NM State scored two in the first on a Kelsey Horton double and a Fiana Finau single, both to right field, taking a 2-0 advantage through the first three innings. The Redhawks were able to strand two Aggies in scoring position in the bottom of the second to stay within striking distance.

The Aggies would end the game early, scoring 10 runs in the fourth on two pairs of back-to-back home runs including a Brennalyn Nakamura grand slam midway through.

In the circle, Alyssa Reuble (Lynnwood, Wash.) was handed the loss, giving up six runs on six hits while walking two batters faced. Makayla McAdams earned the win for the Aggies, striking out one and allowing just three hits.
