After a significant rain delay throughout the day, Seattle University softball (6-10) was able to start and finish a game vs. Bradley (4-12) in exciting fashion, a 5-4 victory for the Redhawks.

“The fight of this team is truly inspiring,” said head coach Geoff Hirai. “After sitting for six hours waiting to play a game, they gave up the lead but then came back to win. I am proud to be their coach.”

After the Braves took the early lead on a Kendall Duffy triple in the first inning, the Redhawks took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the third on an Isabella Geronimo (San Mateo, Calif.) double and Maddy Kristjanson (Mountlake Terrace, Wash.) single.

Bradley pulled within one in the fifth, 3-2, on an in-the-park homer, a ball that sailed down the left field line, and would tie the game, three-all, in the seventh on an SU throwing error.

Invoking the international tiebreaker, a runner was placed on second base for each team in the eighth and Bradley took advantage of the head start, scoring Taylor Wilhalm to take a 4-3 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, Marcella Kay (San Jose, Calif.), the runner placed on second, scored the tying run on a sacrifice fly from Geronimo and Paige Bouska (Keizer, Ore.) would come around to score the winning run on back-to-back base hits from Kristjanson and Rose Saenz (San Gabriel, Calif.).

In the circle, Andie Larkins (Tucson, Ariz.) picked up the complete game win while striking out a career-high-tying eight batters and Jaelen Hull was handed the loss, striking out three in 7 2/3 innings pitched.

Bouska led the Redhawks at the plate (3-for-4) as the Redhawks outhit the Braves, 10-6.
