After starting the spring racing season and helping the varsity 8+ to a second place finish at last week’s Portland Easter Egg Race, Seattle University women’s rowing’s Meghan Ricci (Park City, Utah) has been named GoSeattleU.com Featured Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Mar. 21-27, 2016.

“Meghan has played a key role in the development of this year’s team,” said head coach Jenny Park. “Her hard work and dedication has led the team to a successful start of the season.”

Over the weekend, Ricci and the rest of the SU varsity 8+ finished second ahead of boats from Oregon, Portland, Puget Sound, and Pacific, to start the spring 2016 season on Vancouver Lake, Wash. The novice 8+ finished first in their respective race.

In her third season on the team, Ricci earned a spot in the varsity 8+ boat for her entire sophomore season in 2014-15, rowing the five seat as the boat advanced to Grand Finals at WIRA’s last April. As a freshman, she rowed the seven seat as the novice 8+ won the Covered Bridge Regatta, also medaling and finishing second in Grand Finals at WIRA’s.

Ricci also excels academically as a business economics major with a 3.266 cumulative GPA. She also interns in the Seattle U athletics department, working in video production.

The Redhawks make their spring debut in their home city on Saturday, Apr. 2 at UW’s Husky Open on the Montlake Cut.

The Seattle University athletics department names a Featured Student-Athlete each Tuesday based on performance both in the classroom and in competition.
