“We came back after a big loss against San Diego,” said head coach Geoff Hirai. “We showed a lot of character and fight today.”
Versus the Gauchos in game two, the Redhawks started the contest leaving two runners on base in four of the opening five innings before scoring what would be the winning run on a sacrifice fly in the sixth. SU tacked on one more run on a Maddy Kristjanson (Mountlake Terrace, Wash.) single and kept the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to preserve the win.
In game one, the Redhawks took an early 2-0 lead on a trio of hits including an Isabella Geronimo (San Mateo, Calif.) RBI triple and a Rose Saenz (San Gabriel, Calif.) single, but San Diego scored four runs apiece in the second and fourth. The Toreros also added a run in the third and three more in the fifth.
Alyssa Reuble (Lynnwood, Wash.) picked up the complete game shutout vs. UCSB, striking out three, while Veronika Gulvin suffered the loss in the six-inning outing. SU outhit UCSB, 10-4, in the win. Andie Larkins (Tucson, Ariz.) was credited with the loss in the 3 1/3 inning start vs. San Diego while Megan Sabbatini picked up the win, striking out four in four innings pitched.
