“Grand Canyon was too tough today,” said head coach Adam Reeb. “They came out strong and kept it up throughout the match. We started a little slow and unfortunately couldn’t come back. Kristen played awesome this weekend and she played super solid in getting both her singles matches. We’re disappointed with the result but we know where we need to get better. This is a really balanced conference and we know that, if we just execute a little better, we’ll be right in the mix. The girls have some much needed days off and then we’ll get ready for the next WAC cluster in Chicago.”
After Grand Canyon swept the doubles matches to earn the first point, the ‘Lopes won five straight singles matches to take a 6-0 lead and clinch the win. Kristen James (Lubbock, Texas) earned a victory at No. 6 singles to avoid the shutout, marking her second victory of the weekend.
The Redhawks have a week plus off from competition before hosting Cal State Fullerton on Wednesday, Mar. 30, a match scheduled for 11 a.m. at the SU Tennis Courts. They will continue as well as close regular season conference play vs. Chicago State, UTRGV, and NM State on the first three days of April in Chicago.
