Seattle University women’s tennis recently volunteered and participated in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Dream Gala on Feb. 27, an event the team has been involved with for the past several years and that is close to the heart of several past and present team members.

“JDRF’s efforts to improve the lives of T1’s and find a cure are astonishing,” said sophomore Madison Maloney (Idaho Falls, Idaho). “Volunteering at the Dream Gala is the best way I can say thank you for all of the research they fund for type 1 diabetes. The fact that my teammates were there to support me and this organization means more than anything.”

Maloney alongside teammates Audrey Scott (Austin Texas), Sari Kwee (Honolulu, Hawaii), and Kristen James (Lubbock, Texas) participated in the JDRF Seattle Guild’s 27th Annual Dream Gala, an event that brings together over 900 community leaders and JDRF supporters and has raised over $63 million to fund research to prevent, treat, and ultimately cure type 1 diabetes, according to their website.

Community service is one of the core tenants both of being a Seattle U student and student-athlete, reflecting the pillars of SU’s mission to “[educate] the whole person” and “[empower] leaders for a just and humane world”.
